This is a jay i think. Stunning pose, but how common for that species it is i dont know really. The name is Western scrub-jay Aphelocoma californica

This is a Steller's Jay, only bird in the west that has a crown,
very different pose but they have beautiful colors.

I saw quite a few of these when I took a trip out West a few years back. I believe it is a Steller's Jay but not positive.
Can't say I've ever seen one in this pose but the way it's feathers are ruffed up on the back of it's neck it looks like it could be injured.
