[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
This great egret was photographed at the San Joaquin Wildlife Sanctuary while it intently watched for fish. The sanctuary is an area near Upper Newport Bay and the University of California at Irvine where many birds have a tendency to winter in a series of ponds available. There are likely many year round residents too. These egrets make croaking noises, which is surprising to me in relation to their elegant appearance.
This pic was taken as back lit and trying to find a dark background. As a result of being back lit, the bill took on a little translucent look and the feathers ended up looking like cotton for me.

Beautiful great egret, Ken. It is so snowy white. Sharp details and great composition. TFS. : )

Very nice work Ken. Lovely POV. It may have been a good idea to clone out the metal eye by the feet. Whites.... ah how they can be so difficult to capture.

The POV and composition are very good, the exposure almost perfect.
I like it very much.
Well done!

As far as egret shots go, this is about as good as it gets. The extremely shallow DOF with silky smooth bokeh and the lighting on its bill make this photo a real pleasure to look at.
