[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
9:00 a.m. and the temperature was already in the 80's degree Fahrenheit though it was very cold at night. It seemed to be another clear cloudless day. Best time to do some hiking and photographing is early in the morning or late afternoon. Polarize filter is highly recommended to take pictures in the desert. In this case, that's how I get the deep blue and red rock with as much detail as posible.

Monument Valley is located on the southern border of Utah with northern Arizona (around 36°59′N, 110°6′W). The valley lies within the range of the Navajo Nation Reservation, and is accessible from U.S. Highway 163. The Navajo name for the valley is Tsé Bii' Ndzisgaii (Valley of the Rocks).

The area is part of the Colorado Plateau. The floor is largely Cutler Red siltstone or its sand deposited by the meandering rivers that carved the valley. The valley's vivid red color comes from iron oxide exposed in the weathered siltstone. The darker, blue-gray rocks in the valley get their color from manganese oxide.

The buttes are clearly stratified, with three principal layers. The lowest layer is Organ Rock shale, the middle de Chelly sandstone and the top layer is Moenkopi shale capped by Shinarump siltstone. The valley includes large stone structures including the famed Eye of the Sun.

This is one of the nicest images of Monument Valley I've seen. It is so sharp and the light and color seem very natural to me. Your composition is perfect. Very nice!

It does get hot there. We are going to Utah this April in hopes of beating the heat. The last time we were there in September and about roasted.

Hello Way
I like the composition of this shot very much indeed. The foreground tree nicely balances the buttes and mesa behind it. Colors pop due to the polarizer.

Regards,
Greg
