First of all - I wish I had the opportunity to take higher quality photos these days. I carry my camera with me when I'm out and about playing with my son. It keeps me very busy keeping an eye on him, and the occasional chance I get to spot a subject (birds, mostly) then quickly take the picture of them brings about sloppy results. I am not sure when I'll be able to get out again with my tripod and no distractions, and I hope you'll forgive my shoddy work until then. Some of my captures just get me excited to share them because I was so excited when I took the shot!
I love to watch these birds from the flycatcher family. Not just because it's amazing to watch them eye flying insects, but then crazily fly after them and capture them -- but because they're dressed so formally while doing it. Their garb reminds me of the penguin, but they also have coat and tails! Thanks for looking.
------------
Overview:
Medium flycatcher, mostly black body and white belly. Outer tail feathers and undertail coverts are white. Bill, legs, feet are black. Feeds primarily on insects, sometimes small fish. Weak fluttering bouyant flight with shallow wing beats. Sallies from perch to catch insects in air.
Range and Habitat:
Resident in northern California and southwestern U.S.; also occurs in the tropics. Preferred habitats include shady areas near water, streams, ponds, and lakes; occurs in city parks and open chaparral in winter. |

Penny,
Beautiful shot of the Black Phoebe, I see them everyday in my back yard, sitting on my patio chair, waiting to catch some bugs. I haven't yet sucessfully take a photo of it. Good composition and natural surrounding.
