Owl's Clover: Castilleja exserta
A wide view showing Owl's Clover, the purple wildflowers in the foreground, within a natural desert environment during a wet spring.
You can see a closeup view of owl's clover here:
Owl's Clover Blossom
Though exceptionally green and lush in this picture, this is the Sonoran desert. During the spring of 2005 the desert floor was carpeted with grasses and wildflowers as you can see in this image. The grasses are hiding a surface of loose, jagged rocks and sandy soil.
Look closely in the background and you will see a variety of common desert plants. The tree-like scrub on the far right is a Creosote Bush. Next it from left to right you'll find a Barrel Cactus, Teddy Bear Cholla, Saguaro, a Palo Verde tree and another Creosote Bush.
In the far background are the White Tank Mountains west of Phoenix. This was photographed within White Tank Mountain Regional Park. |

Hi Steve,
Even before I read your notes I was amazed at how green and lush this is. I love this view of the Owl's Clover in a very pretty setting. Beautiful colors and a nice composition. Where is White Tank?????

nice to see a wide angle of plants intheir natural habitat...good work and refreshing to see.....I may have to have a go at this style as well...fine job!!
Hi Steve, I like the fine composition and color as well as textural variables of these plants, mountians, and sky. Wonderful rich color. The scene beackons me for a stroll. Quite the change of scenery from my wintery landscape I live in here in MN at the momnent. tfs and visiting my beach posting today.

You have given Arizona a life beyond hot sun and desert here Steve. It looks as if it could be a mountain meadow in my wilderness. Wonderful colours and super use of depth of field. The only thing missing are 60 foot fir and pine and I would be home:-) Wonderful photo.

Simply beautiful!

Wonderful picture. Good spacing all around and I like the way you have similiar saturation levels in the background and the foreground. TFS Trevor
