Golden Coyote

| [Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note |
This coyote and I crossed paths, but once he was safely away from me, he stopped and looked back. I knew he was with his mate, but she hid and I was unable to locate her.
While they may be at the top of the food chain in this area, I do love these creatures. Their song is mournful and haunting, they not only scavage, but they are quite adept at hunting. Like us, they live in a family, but due to constant shooting of these animals, they tend to be shy of humans.
This fellow was on a sanctuary, but I wasn't going to chase him down. I found out very few people get to see these wonderful mammals, much less obtain a photo. I counted my blessings, wished him good luck in the future, and a happy, long life. This was taken in the fall and I loved the golden color of the grass - of course the evening sun just about to set really enhanced a beautiful landscape in my opinion. In my opinion, the best part of this photo is that he is in his natural environment without folks standing by with a gun. The fact he's not caged up or injured by a bullet was a wonderful sight to behold.
I hear he and his mate now have little ones and I hope to get closer and get a few photos should the opportunity arrive. |

Superb Kathy, lucky to be able to take a picture and the golden grass with the almost silhouetted coyote makes for a great picture. You sound like me with your love of animals, I too wish them a long life, "live long and prosper", just like the Vulcans. My friend lives in a very remote area and there is a coyote coming very close to her house during the early morning. Her dog chases it, it must be looking for food and she is very surprised first, to see one, second to see it that close of the house. I'va had a real fast glimpse of one running down a hill, once. All I remember is the curved back from running fast. Thank you for sharing this nice picture and fine thoughts.
