In early spring the newest branches of the Willow tree slowly turns from a darker orange brown into a light almost yellow brown. This is truly a sign of wakening from a long winters rest. In just a few very short weeks there will be thousands of greens and yellows on the Willows and they shall also be filled with songbirds. These trees are nestled in between some trees which didn't make it through the last dozen winters. Yet behind the willows are tall pines of lodgepole and jack as well as ponderosa. And finally in the fore we have some of the rare prairie grasses. All of this on the edge of Fish Lake.

This particular area is one which I enjoy because few people walk nearby nor into these woods. I imaged them with 299mm of my 300mm across the lake. to walk into this area pictured is both long and full of briers, brambles and bush heavy enough to give the best of trekkers a second thought. An of course this natural protection gives safe harbour to many species of aviary and crawling critter, amongst of which I have seen Osprey perch whilst eating a fish freshly caught, then back over the lake to glide slowly and swiftly as a wounded super jet they dive into the water in split seconds coming up with another portion of food. An amazing bird to watch as it feasts...all in the way of nature...It is a nice memory....and quite humorous....as so many humans have tried to catch fish here but it is a rarity for them to have success. Birds trump man!

Hi Bob,

I would have thought this was an autumn scene! Interesting layers with the non-survivors, the oranges and the greens. It should be wonderful to experience all the wonders of nature in your area.

Jane

Hi Bob,
good idea in this image. I like the contrast between colors, but the foreground looks bit overexposed. Otherwise really nice one.

Hola Bob.
La foto muy bella de las orilllas del lago, debe ser placentero caminar por esos lugares, observando como las aves atrapan los peces con mucha mayor suete que los humanos. Hermosos colores y alta definicion a pesar de tantos arbustos y arboles.
Saludos, Un abrazo.

Hello Bob,
Very distinct layers in this wonderful landscape, each posessing its own beauty. The deep green conifers, the golden willows, the silver bleached remains and the beautiful light tan grasses. But then you knew that. Thanks Bob.
Rick

Hi Bob,
Wonderful shot of this amazing place with such glorious colours and details. This is purely a 'Bob special'. You do it so well and create art out of such mundane subjects. Very pleasant to the eyes. I particularly like the layers and the dried branches. Excellent POV to portray it and very nicely composed. Kudos.
TFS.

Hi Bob,

Haven't been around to critique over the last few days as work's squeezing the life out of me at the moment. Anyway, I'm here now with a nice glass of wine enjoying this super shot. I've said lots of time before that I love your pictures, but every so often you post one which blows my socks off, and this is such a shot. I just love those trees in the foreground and the colours are superb. Love it.

Love the colors here Bob, and the layered composition.
It's a beautiful neck of the woods you have up there in Washington..except when it's snowing..you can keep that ;)
