Botany Test!

Bet you can't identify this desert wildflower!
I issue this challenge because I'm pretty familiar with Sonoran desert wildflowers and blooming plants and this one stumps me. I have not seen it a lot either but then I'm a landscape photographer who tends to ignore small things. :)
Location:
This was photographed in the northern Sonoran desert near the base of the Superstition Mountains in very rocky, uneven soil at about 1,800ft (550M) elevation.
The Clues:
1-This is a low lying bushy shrub about 2-3 feet(.6m to 1m) tall
2-It has thin woody stick-like branches
3-It has small muted green leaves with reddish pointed tips that have tiny cilia-like hairs on them
4-It's buds look a lot like it's leaves
5-It's flower has 4 or 5 pointed magenta/lavender colored petals distributed fairly evenly around the plant
6-This plant was blossoming in late April
Oh, and did I fail to mention the picture isn't all that good? LOL!!! |

Well I think the image is fine...I sure have no idea of the flora of the desert though. Perhaps if my daughter and husband buy a home there as they plan, in Flagstaff, I will get to see more of the3se types of images. TFS
