Thus is another Sonoran desert wildflower I can't identify.
This is what I do know. This plant doesn't look anything like you'd expect to see in the Sonoran. It has broad leaves but it is NOT a succulent. It looks like something you'd see in temperate zones but not deserts.
This wildflower is tiny and comes in little clumps. The bee in this picture is only about 1/2 inch long.
This was photographed in Hieroglyphic Canyon in the Superstition Mountain Wilderness Area east of Phoenix in mid-August during the monsoon season. August is a month with intense heat. August is also well past normal wildflower season. The bright green stands out during this time of year because most every other delicate plant has long since dried up and turned to brown fuel for wildfires.
It was found in the middle of a wash that gets a lot of monsoon flooding so had a moisture source. It was just up the wash from the set of well known petroglyphs found in that canyon.
If I ever figure out what it is I will update this note. :) |

Hi Davidson,
Beautiful wildflowers with such lovely bright colour and you have skillfully captured them with a Bee on top. Very neat and sharp image. The green leaves as BG presents a fine contrast and lets the flowers to stand out nicely. Excellent DOF and a well chosen POV to portray them. Very nice composition. Kudos.
TFS.

Yikes...You should have done double duty...been a photojournalist as well as a journalist, unless you already didn't...Did your paper belong to the NPPA? this is a great image...the deep colours are wonderful.
