[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
The American Goldfinches have started returning to our area of Ohio after a long winter's vacation. They show up in small groups at first and then as the breeding season draws closer they pair off to build and tend their nest. They are some of the latest nesting songbirds, choosing to start from late June to early July.
They look a little ragged when they first show up in the spring due to their molting. They molt every spring from their winter plumage into their breeding plumage. In a few weeks the males are bright golden yellow and the females are more of a brownish olive color.
I always look forward to their return every spring. They are a beautiful bird and their tweeting sounds made during flight is unmistakable.

Hello Ron,
Beautiful sharp photo of this Goldfinch. The head is little bit out of focus. The colours are very clear and natural. Very good POV and pose.

Hi Ron,

A beautiful American Goldfinch in a wonderful pose. Lovely colors - that yellow is really yellow. Excellent details of the face, wings and plummage. The background is superb. I have not seen these birds here - only the Lesser Goldfinches.

Hi Ron,

Excellent shot! Nice detail, good exposure. These are one of my favorite birds. They stay here all winter, so I get to watch their complete color change through the seasons. I used to feed birds in the winter in my yard, but quit due to the seed attracting deer, squirrels, raccoons and mice too, and I miss the Goldfinches the most of all the birds.

They certainly are beautiful birds, aren't they? You know, I lived in Kentucky for years, but I don't recall ever seeing one of these - though I remember the dogwoods! There's something about this bird that calls attention to itself, perhaps the stunning colors of his body, their playfulness (which I've seen a lot of with other birds) and I especially love their call.

Nice lighting with excellent exposure here.

Ron, this is a great shot. Thanks for your remarks about my Albino Sparrow. A lady told me that she had seen a white bird in her yard. I went over to her house, and in about 15 minutes he showed up. I was able to get this once in a lifetime shot of a very rare bird. Bill
