| [Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note |
So often I am reminded of how easy it is to walk into a store (with money, mind you) and purchase our food. Nature hasn't changed like we have: it's eat or be eaten.
Having little extra goodies is wonderful for the critters when there are people kind enough not only to purchase them - but in the process, making sure that what is purchased is healthy food that is a part of their diet.
As tempting as it is to feed these critters, there's a point where I have to stop because the message I don't want to send is: depend on me because I'll feed you.
The food dish and various feeders are not filled each day because the birds and squirrels to have a natural supply. While it's wonderful to walk a block down the road, park myself in somebody's yard, and simply wait for the animals to come, it's also a stark reminder that animals must never forget how to forage for food on their own.
Rascal never made a sound, but those sad eyes of his beseeched me for another cob - and he didn't get one. To have given in would be akin to allowing a youngster candy, cake, pop, and anything else he or she might want without thinking of the consequences. That doesn't make them less endearing, but it does enforce the idea that sometimes the word no (or the actions that enforce the word) do have positive results.
In this instance, Rascal left this post and began to hunt for acorns he buried last fall. Good for him! |

What a lovely capture, Kathy! How much I like the pose of the squirrel and the eye-contact. The title fits so well.
Good job.
Greetings
