**After further review...I have decided that the below is wrong. This is the same day Pine Siskin but a different view. Since no critiques have been written yet..I wanted to get this in quickly more later...Same day...different image...now I am really confused:-) but my government pays me to be!

Jane's Comfort Chair sits close to our sliding glass doors. It is convenient for her as she can see well all she purveys inside, whilst having a good view of the feeder. So she called me from the computer room and told me to bring my cameras. She said it was my friend the Pine Siskin. Jane says that sort of thing a lot. She has little names for ones she says she recognizes as same bird she had seen other times...Perhaps she has a special eye for that. To me they look similar but how in the world one could ell if two were one I don't know. So I thought back to my last Pine Siskin and redecorated the camera settings, knowing the last one had been just a tad less dynamic. Now as I look..the feet are EXACTLY as they were last time in the last shot...not one iota off...not one cell of knuckle and in same position as well...It is if there are two levels of earth plane and I am on both at the same time...I quickly go back to check my originals...and they are different dates..Is this possible. Can a bird mimic exactly its own position? Or is it just me...Maybe I'm working too hard..I think I need a rest:-) Later today when I have time, I shall upload untouched original...so others can compare..I tell you these are identical...

After moving the ISO from 400 to 800, I went to the menu and reset the colour option and did a quick white balance. All of this time the Siskin pecked away at the food. These birds are eating us out of food quickly. We are a bonanza goldmine for them I'm sure. Well anyway...I cannot tell if it is the same one or not, even with both pictures in hand, but I do believe the colours to be a lot more closer to what I see with my eye. So...without further rambling...here is "The same according to Jane". A Pine Siskin....eating all it can!

Hi Bob,

My son and I have the same conversations. We're probably wrong most of the time but we think we know when it is a return visitor or a newcomer. Nice of him to pose like this for you with his mouth full of seeds. A good bird shot with natural colors and good details of his face and plummage.

Given the same conditions and the same bird, the chances are that the feet are planted in the same way. I've noticed this on our feeders, Bob.
But what I like about this image is the action of the two mandibles and tongue working away at the seed in this head-on view of a Pine Siskin, easier to observe than photograph.
TFS this fine image,
And my best wishes to Jane!
Ivan

Hello Bob
Ivan is right about the feet..The more you observe the birds the more you understand they are creatures of habit..That said this is a very very impressive capture with immaculate sharpness and lovely front on look chewing your hard earned seed!!
I set you a challenge Bob..The birds have to land at your feeder. capture one inflight landing..I see you have enough light to get a proper fast shutter which you could cut down to poss 300 and drop the iso a bit...Theres a hint..Will you take the challenge!!??
All the Best to you and Jane

It's so nice to know I'm not the only one that chews with my mouth open! Seriously, nice image, very close up, and I love the texture of his feathers, not to mention his look. Awesome composition - but that's nothing new! Looking at this makes me laugh, and as always, wonderful notes.

Superb photo Bob,
Extremely sharp and great colours. This is the kind of image that makes you just want to gaze at, and enjoy it's beauty. Well done!!
I just posted one tonight that didn't look all that bad until I downloaded it to the site, since I couldn't figure out how to remove it, I had to leave it up.

Hi Bob,
obviously nobody has taught this Siskin any manners about eating with your mouth closed ;o) Anyway, despite this social faux pas, a very good shot indeed! That bright light has enabled you to get a fast shutter speed and some very sharp detail. Great timing too, well done.
