[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
This image is one I made at a local site where work has been going on since 1974 to restore old farmland to something that closely resembles the original prairie, grasslands that were the primary ecosystem in this part of North America prior to the arrival of European settlers.

This spectacular site is the work of a very dedicated, intelligent and special gentleman, Don Gardner, who I had the great pleasure to meet for a guided tour of his property yesterday. While this is a site where the native plants have been re-introduced by the hand of man, they are reproducing and spreading on their own, and it qualifies as a wild site, so I feel that photos of it are appropriate here. It's an oasis of biodiversity set in the middle of what was once virtually infinite prairie, but is now almost infinite farm fields.

The tall, white and pink flowers on long stems are Shooting Stars, Dodecatheon media, the orange-yellow clumps of flowers are Hoary Puccoon, Lithospermum canescens, and the lighter yellow flowers are Wood Betony or Lousewort, Pedicularis canadensis. These are just a few of the plants found in local prairies. This particular restoration contains about 150 species of native prairie plants, an excellent restoration, but it also includes about 40 species of Eurasian plants that persist in small numbers. For alternate views of this site, see the workshops.

To read more about this very special place, check out Don Gardner's site at http://www.inhs.uiuc.edu/~kenr/gardnerprairie/gardner.html .

Hi John,
What a splash of colours. TFS. Though, I would not have chopped off the two bunches on the right.
Regards,
- Nirmal

Wowww... john! What a beautiful capture of all kind colours of Nature my friend. Great composition indeed. TFS. Cheers,
Bayram

very nice combination of flowers, but they are not seen in their best, perhaps you should take pictures with full sun in the morning or in the afternoon. TFS Ori

Hello John,

I found your notes very interesting.
It creates a great impact when man undertakes projects which rectify former actions of shortsightedness!

This is just beautiful!
How thrilling to see these plants growing so healthily and, as you say, seeding and spreading naturally!

kind regards,
Bev :-)

Bellissima immagine che documenta la necessità della conservazione e della biodioversità, molto bella la composizione, buona nitidezza e molto belli i colori. Grazie e complimenti. Ciao Maurizio

Hello John. You have capitalized springs very well. Excellent lush of wild flowers captured beautifully in good exposure and detail. Best regards. Jusni

Beautiful array of wild flowers John.
You did a wonderful job at composing this image. You've displayed such an assortment of mixed colours. Nicely done!! Great notes.

Hello John,

Beautiful composition, excellent sharpness and wonderful colours. I think I prefer this version than the one in the WS. The colours are warmer and the contrast is better.
Cheers,
Mariki
