I walked out back tonight and kneeled down to get this shot of a dandelion, after the flower had wilted and turned into this seed pod.
As a child I was always amazed at the way the little seedlings could float away in the wind on the tiny silk like hairs.
I would gather a bunch of the pods together and blow them as hard as I could and watch as they drifted off into the sky.
I have absolutely no idea why, but as kids we always called them Santa Clauses. Probably because the silk like hairs reminded us of Santa Clauses beard. |

Hi Ron,
Very nice shot, a pleasant composition. I like stuff like this that shows things we see every day take for granted in a new light.
Your sharpness is excellent, but I'd suggest maybe a smaller f/stop though, maybe f/11, a little more depth of field would have brought more of the seed head into sharp focus, minor quibble though, it's a very nice shot.
Thanks,
John

Hi Ron,
A wonderful macro of this dandelion seed pod. I think I'm going to sneeze. You show excellent details in a nice composition. I haven't seen one of these since I left the east coast.

No camera information but this is a spectacular macro capture. Your spoked framing is very attractive. Lighting and color are excellent.
