Taken in the Lamar Valley.
The Pronghorn (Antilocapra americana), small, trim ungulate of the order ARTIODACTYLA. It is the last surviving species of a once abundant and diverse family (Antilocaprindae) of American ruminants. Although sometimes called pronghorn antelope, it is not a true antelope.
In 1900 they were near extinction, but the CONSERVATION and management of pronghorns has been successful. Rigorous protection and reintroduction have made them common in the western US. SW Saskatchewan and SE Alberta are the northern fringe of the pronghorns' distribution. Source. |

Great looking animal Mike, nice job.
Excellent DOF, detail, and color. I like the overall scene with the broken patches of snow here.

Very interesting...You ar eup there at Yellowstone..or down there from here...and so is your fellow Canadian, Rick Price from Alberta. I have heard the snows were quite deep...watch out for driving back:-)
I see your an old timer here on TN...and I suppose due to many others I have not seen your fine gallery before..Very nice work with a VERY nice camera. I do like my D50. It is a workhorse. Your lens is a bit on the pricy side..I am using a smaller Nikkor and a inexpensive Sigma...so the quality may be as much in the eye as it is in the good gear, but you do have a spot on sense of timing! Very nice Mike.
Bob
Hi Mike
It's nice to see you back on TN.
Thank goodness for conservation, as so many animals would not be here. You were able to get quite close to this Pronghorn and show their pretty colours and detail.

Hi Mike,
This really is an awesome photo. When I first saw these animals, I tought I was either in a zoo or in Africa.
This photo has an awesome amount of details and clarity. I like the fact to see the animal in the winter landscape, it just brings out so much more detail.
TFS,
Niek
