The Two-Tailed Swallowtail (Papilio multicaudata) is a large North American butterfly. Its appearance is similar to Western and Eastern Tiger Swallowtails, but has thinner and fewer black stripes on the wings and the hind wing has two tails. The Two-Tailed Swallowtail has distinctive yellow wings with a black tiger striping. Each hindwing has several blue markings (top and bottom). The eyespots can fool predators into attacking the rear of the butterfly instead of the head, giving the butterfly a chance to escape.
The Two-tailed Swallowtail is the state butterfly of Arizona.
The butterfly can be found throughout Arizona except in the extreme west and southwest (it can also be found in: CA, NM, UT, CO and NV) and typically lives in canyons and cities at lower elevations. Adults fly from late February to mid-November. |

Elizabeth,
That is a great 1st post.
What an impressive looking butterfly!
I like how you've managed to get parallel to the butterfly and thus managed to get the complete specimen in very good focus.
I like the colors

Welcome to TN. Elizabeth,
Excellent macro of such a beautiful butterfly. Your focus, sharpness, detail, composition and colours are right on the money.
Looks like this particular butterfly has hit a few bumps in the road during it's short lifetime, but then don't we all sooner or later.
Great post!! TFS.
Ron
Hallo Elizabeth
Such a beautiful and large butterfly that about fills the whole frame. The colours and patterns are really special and it looks like coloured powder dust have been dropped on the wings. Lovely presentation with super sharpness, focus and splendid detail. Outstanding depth of field. It can actually go through as a piece of artwork. A splendid piece of work, presented in a most delightful manner. It was a real enjoyment looking and appreciating your "papilon". Love the light shining from below. Thanks for sharing.
Kind regards
Anna
