Belted Kingfisher

| [Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note |
I got this shot at Ding Darling National Wildlife Refuge on Sanibel Island, Florida. I know that Belted Kingfishers are fairly common waterside birds in North America, but this is my only photograph of one and I was excited when I captured it. I didn't grow up near lakes or rivers, so I didn't see fishing birds like Heron, Egret or Kingfishers. The Kingfishers are so great looking, with their big heads and beaks and spiked hair. What's not to love about this funny little guy? :)
For this shot I used a Canon 400mm f/2.8 lens with a 2x teleconverter (800mm focal length) resting on a bean bag on my car door |

Hi Stephen,
Kingfishers are always very diffucult to capture. This Belted species looks really funny. Good composition, pose, POV and sharp details.
