[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
I'm hoping someone can identify this large bug. They seem to love these flowers - as do the bees. Another request - I have a new monitor and everything looks different on it. Please comment on the sharpness (or anything else that looks strange) as you see it on your screen. I may have to learn to adjust to the LCD.

Hello Jane,
The black Bee, small Lycenid butterfly and the flowers look generally sharp and well coloured to me in a pleasing composition of a subject that is unusual from you. I can't ID the bee I'm afraid.
Thanks for sharing this unusual image,
Ivan

Hi Jane!

Large bug is probably Violet carpenter bee – Xylocopa violacea. Nice 3D effect and composition - slightly chaotic but still nice.

Hi Jane. You have three items for use today in this very colourful picture which jumped out from my screan. First the red are so rich in colour and the little moth hidding away behind i must admit i did not see it at first. And lastly the Bug with the jet black body and shining wings. well done TFS.
Nick..

Have a nice weekend.

In Venezuela is called "cigarron". You can find them black or yellow and they make a particular buzz sound when they're flyng that you can hear from far away.

Hello Jane,
What a beautiful flower, not quite in focus but the Bee is fine. I can just see a butterfly hiding there! :-) A fine smooth background too and well composed. The colours are lovely!
TFS and have a nice weekend, Ulla

Hello Jane, splendid macro shot in all aspects. TFS. Regards,
Deniz

Hello Jane
This is a lovely change of subject that you post today..I have no idea as to the Bug but stand back in case it bites or stings!!..The S5 has great macro capabilities and its a lot of fun exploring new subjects...My father has an S5 and he uses a very cheap table top bendy metal tripod as a handle so he can hold the camera in one hand for this type of capture leaving the other hand free for the shutter, Asbed (celtikranger) does the same.
The sharpness etc looks all very good to me.

I'm not sure where you have focused on - maybe the leaf left of the black fly. It is a hard photo to comment on because really nothing is really clear. We can see the wings, but really not in good focus.
Try another photo that isn't so busy and we can then check out how your new LCD screen is.
Sorry if this is blunt - but do you want the truth or just praise?
The colours look good and I see you also have a small butterfly among the leaves too.
Janice

Hi,
On the road now with slow connection. Just marking up the best ones this time.

Hi Jane

Excellent light and colour. You have really managed to convey the sense of the bee foraging through the flowers.

James

Hi Jane...I see beautiful composition, Black bee, hiding butterfly and lovely flowers ...Colors and light perfect and you did great work again...Well done sis...
All the best

I don't know and I will check to see what others said it was after I write this. I don't like others notions to clutter my opine! I think the fact that it is not a common insect, to me and here, that itself makes the image...the rarity of it is the point here...at least in my eyes....Very interesting and now I shall go and see if anyone guessed it right!
Bob

Salut Jane
Très belle photo que ce bel insecte que je vois pour la première foisde ma vie.. Le cadrage est très beau avec une belle composition, les couleurs et les détails sont supers .
Merci et au revoir ....JP

Nice shot. The shining bee looks good. But since you asked, in my opinion the picture looks very much in need of sharpening. Other than one or two leaves, nothing appears to be sharp. Also I feel the image is a little too busy, with many things for the eyes to focus on... may be that feeling comes due to lack of sharpness.

Hello Jane,
On my screen the large leaf just below and to the left of the wasp is really sharp. The rest is a little out of focus.
I can't help in the identity of the insect but I do like the composition you have chosen. The colours of the flowers are very beautiful.
Ron

Hi Jane,

I give always honest critique!
The colors looks good to me.round the bee i see a little white and that can be oversharping, i see that specially in the brown BG.

Why do you not to adjust the monitor with a monitor installation program?

Gert

Hi Sister, A subject changing? Really a perfect macro capture of this beautiful combination with great details and nice lighting. TFS.
Have a nice weekend! Take care my Sis!
Cheers,

Bayram

Hi Jane,
I think the black is a carpenter bee and the butterfly in the BG is a blue or hairstreak one but not sure. I am now seeing this with my laptop and I don't see any oversharpening effects. And also this should have been more better though. But still then I like this shot very much. Thanks a lot for sharing.

Un'immagine di grande impatto visivo per i bellissimi colori, molto bella la composizione, IMHO piccole imperfezioni nella messa a fuoco e l'insetto è seminascosto. Grazie e complimenti. Ciao Maurizio

hello Jane

excellent shot of this bee witht he beautiful and colourful flowers,
beautiful luminosity of the image, excellent sharpness and details,

TFS
