[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
This is Franson Peak which is a subset peak of Granite Mountain. I took this image after a 3 day RAIN storm, as the low clouds and fog started breaking through and finally lifting off the ground completely, allowing us eventually clear view of the sky and mountains. No matter what the pixel size, I retained my Olympus camera for along time. The glass was sharp and picked up much for the sensors delight. The camera in itself was an amazing artistic tool.

Granite Mountain and all of its subsets, are white granite and smooth in large untreed areas. No! It is NOT SNOW. It is the sun shining off of the bald granite which is white. Were it snow, there would be snow left of the 60 foot fine and fir trees as well. At the very top you can barely see a small building. This building housed a person for 4 to 5 months during the high red flag forest fire season. Granite will NOT allow for penetration of radio signals an other waves such as precursors to earthquake which include extreme 'piezo effect' on the large nodes of crystal under the granite. when underground crystal comes under extreme pressure it both glows and then "hummmms", It makes a low sounding noise that few untrained ears can hear at 2000-3000 cycles per second. The noise of crystal under pressure is also a dynamic in the change of the geomagnetic field. USGS and others who study seismology and geology have "picked up" on the chatter which my long running group Pinpoint as discussed since 1992. Investigations into the slight changes in pressure and changes in the geomagnetic field have become a legitimate choice for researchers in scientific principle. Pinpoint as a group, is proud to have been a catalyst of both professional and amateur geologists. I too am proud to have started Pinpoint in 1992 based on my notions that human as in some aviaries, have pools of magnetite in the body. This magnetite can pick up slight changes in the geomagnetic field prior to an earthquake. We have found, that some creatures such as homing pigeons and whales, not only use the geomagnetic and magnetite for guidance, but that this system can go into anomalies 24-72 hours prior to earthquake within 800 miles. Much more can be learned on this subject by requesting permission to join Pinpoint. It has always been a tightly closed group of approximately 200 people, both professional and student. Anyone truly interested may feel free to write me and request admission. There are requirements which I shall define at that time. Until then, I present Franson Peak, Ferry County Washington.

A lovely posting - reminiscent of Markus' (Heaven) work. I loke the window you have created/seem here. The image has a wonderful atmosphere.

Many peaks in the Mediteranean Basin are like this - though mostly limestone, but the effect is the same.

The Chinese have used animals as earthquakes warning systems for many years - especially dogs. Many other cultures, considered by the West as 'less developed' have also used this knowledge. We tend to have a rather arrogant attitude to this type of thing, which has saved people's lives for years.

A remarkable peep-hole landscape taken through the clouds. Great lighting and composition with the shady triangle in the FG. Good one from your archives.
Interesting note too.
I remember seeing this type of granite in Yosemite when I was there eons ago and this shot is a fine and discreet reminder.

Hi Bob,

I have scenes like this. They are very beautiful when it's a mountain you are familiar with and very disappointing when they are mountains you wanted to see. This is the only kind of glimpse I got of the Grand Teutons. Lovely view of Granite Mountain seen clearly through the sky hole.

Amazing capture of this white granite mountain sticking up through the cloiuds. Excellent POV and beautiful light and colours. Very interesting note too!
I just wonder where you were when you captured this? You must have been pretty high up yourself!

frankly speaking, I like the Climbing Bauhinia photo more than any birds, insects or sky photos I have posted before. Simply b'cos, this is exactly the way I see nature, which always gives me surprises and happiness : )
