[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
This lone buffalo was hanging out in the geyser basin of Yellowstone National Park last February. It was really cold and the geyser in the back (as Niek suggested, it is Castle Geyser in the Old Faithful Basin - the map link here plots the point) shooting steam into the air with the crisp moist air added a lot to the image. Matt has posted a workshop photo where he cropped things a bit... may look better, although I'm afraid the buffalo looks like he is too far to the right in the crop (that's why I left it without cropping)... give them a look and see what you think!

amazing landscape, great combination! TFS Ori

Hi Kelly,
I always enjoy seeing shots of the animals at Yellowstone. We were there last May when there was still quite a lot of snow but not such cold temperatures. I suppose you are used to those temps living in Montana. I started to post my photo but somehow it seemed no one wanted to see snow in the summer! ... as least that is the feeling I got. I'll see how you do and maybe I'll post mine too. I'd decided to just wait. I love it when there is snow because the animals stand out so clearly against it. You managed this shot very nicely.

Beautiful image Kelly,
I must agree with Evelynn though, when I first saw the snow I thought about summer ending, and the white stuff which will be right around the corner.
Good exposure and very sharp focus. Love the soft lighting, looks very peaceful.
You have captured this beautiful animal in it's natural habitat, thus posting a marvelous scene for all to enjoy.

WOW. What a scene. Good to see the snow, the geyser is great but the buffalo is an added bonus.
Well seen and captured Kelly

Great photo. I like the fact that there are two points of interest, and the snow covered landscape gives it a slightly magical feel to it. I'm not so sure about the framing of it thoug, both the Buffalo and the geyser are fairly central. I would have cropped the image to get the buffalo fairly low to the right of the picture. I've done a workshop version (my first)to show you what I mean - hope you like it. Anyway, I still think it's a great capture, cropped or not. TFS

Hi Kelly,
What a wonderful photo. The bison adds so much to this already stunning landscape. The geyser looks like the Castle Geyser, which I've only seen in summer. The exposure in this photo is superb, de hint of sunlight on the back of the bison adds that needed color to the alomst black and white environment.
TFS,
Niek
