Helmeted Curassow
 |
|
| [Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note |
The Northern Helmeted Curassow, Pauxi pauxi is a large terrestrial black bird with a small head, large bluish grey casque (helmet) on forehead, red bill, white-tipped tail feathers, greenish glossed mantle and breast feathers, and white below. The sexes are similar with the female being somewhat smaller.
The species is found in western Venezula and northern Columbia. The range is restricted to subtropical cloud-forest in steep, mountainous regions at 1,000-1,500 m, where it seeks out humid gorges with dense undergrowth away from forest edges. Nesting takes place in March, and the young hatch around mid-May. Pairs or extended family groups forage for fruit, seeds, tender leaves, grasses and buds.

Hi Greg,
Excellent capture of this Curassow with good pose and composition, sharp details and nicely blurred BG.

Hello Greg,
Great exposure resulting in such a finely detailed image. The highlighted black on black looks great on its beautiful plumage.
Crystal clear focus, I especially like the head and eye detail. I've never seen this kind of bird before but you've provided a great image for all to enjoy viewing!!
