Juvenile Redtail Hawk - Female

While travelling the weekend I came across this young female Hawk "perch hunting" from a tree near the freeway. I was able to get quite close and was able to get some great shots.
Red Tail Light forms: Head darkish brown. Throat dark or white. Chest white or with rusty streaks. Dark band of streaks across belly variable, from very dark to nearly absent. Dark patches at leading edge of wing, and dark trailing edge. Back dark brown with white mottling; white forming loose "V" on shoulders. May show pale eyestripe.
Juvenile similar to adult, but more streaked, and has brown tail with several dark bars across it.
Similar Species
Red-shouldered Hawk has a banded tail and is more uniformly colored. Red tail separates dark form from all other hawks. |

Hi Kris.
Well seen and great pose of this hawk. You have got your light exposure and colour lovely but unfortunatly there is camera movement and your image is slightly out of focus. It would be great to see this image pin-sharp for all the detail in the hawk.
I say this to help and not discourage, I see it has had alot of views but no comments.
