*There is an image of me in WORKSHOP. It shows me about 20 miles south of the area of this shot...I looked so dang young! so visit the workshop as well...

*alos for Argus and anyone else who asks...visit this on Drake:
Oliver Seeler a good friend of mine

On September 20, 1519, Magellan and a crew of 270 men set sail from Spain on their around-the-world voyage in five small vessels including his flagship Trinidad, Concepcion, San Antonio, Victoria, and Santiago. It took the fleet, or at least the three remaining ships in the fleet, 38 days to navigate the strait around South America that was to bear Magellan’s name. During the last week of November, the fleet emerged into what Magellan described as a “beautiful, peaceful ocean.” Thus, it was named the Pacific Ocean (“pacific” meaning “peaceful.”)

...and with any luck, after passing though the oldest and tallest Redwood Forest today, after leaving Cannon Beach in S Oregon. Rick Price and wife Lucy will ride along the small US CA 1 Highway and come out here. If they are lucky and if there is no fog, nor storm...and if it is low tide and if and if if and if if...then this is the sight they will be greeted with. The Pacific...not well named, but the Pacific none the less. This is the last turn from the road coming off the Redwood Drive and onto the long stretch of rugged 2 lane, no railguard road which winds its way down the California coast to somewhere near Bodega bay where it tens to go inland. Of course they may not make it to Point Arena. there is a "rule" which most folks driving longer trailers must follow...a hairpin turn so sharp and so windy that it is impractical for a trailer of certain length to navigate...althoguh I have seen it done...

All of their driving will be worthwhile. This view alone is worth it...it was taken on old Ffujichrome slide film and Fuji has this strange way of altering the true colours in the red range...They do well with blues and greens but if there is any yellow or red, it can come out a bit odd which is why the foliage is only a tad off. Not too far off though. It is close...I didn't use slide film much but tried it for a bit in order to use Cibachrome in the darkroom. ciba has gone on to other things...

Nice one, Bob, but I don't think Magellan Navigated up the Californian coast: he rounded the straight and went on to cross the Pacific.
But that does not detract from the beauty of this image showing the slight mistyness of the Californian coast in a great composition.
I looked young in 1983 too!
Ivan

Hey Bob! Please don't stop going out and shooting!I know you have a treasure trove of shots, but you just might end up being indoors all the time!
A lovely shot as usual...The bit of History you mention is interesting, let me look it up!

Hello Bob.
Fantastic panoramic picture!
Another great composition with beautiful colors and outstanding light. The waters and sky are such a pleasing shade of blue.
Cheers,
José Roberto

Hi Bob,

Beautiful!!!! In fact it's breathtaking - my favorite kind of scene and one I don't see often. As for the workship, gee, I looked young in 1983 too.

Hello Bob,
This is a nice contrast to the rough seas you've recently shown us. I like your composition very much with the dry grasses in front bringing nice depth to the image. A lovely misty light and beautiful colours too. I like the pattern of the silvery surf on the sea. - As to the workshop - those were the days!!

Hi Bob

A very beautiful scenery, but sadly not the best weather. I'm that this place is just superb for watching a nice sunrise or sunset. However, this is not the point here.
Even so, the perspective of your shot is lovely and the depth is very nice.
Composition-wise, if i may, i might have cropped a bit of the sky, to give the impression of a much wider view. But this is a subjective matter.
Something less subjective is your looks in the WS picture...nice one! ;) (not that you wouldn't be handsome now) :)) Chuckles.

Cheers and TFS
Horia

Ciao Bob, beautiful seascape with great soft colors and splendid light, very well done, ciao Silvio

Hi Bob,
where should I start admiring your coastal landscape shots? I begin with your last one. It shows that you had an uncanny feeling for the far horizon, for the golden rule, for the light, for atmosphere. And how you dealt with the sky, superb!
Best regards
Dietrich

Hi Bob,you were a good looking young man way back then!!
The Pacific is much calmer on our east coast - and I've had some great holidays on a few wonderful Pacific islands - they are so calm and peaceful too.
It must be the winds, etc that make the west coasts rougher than the east coasts on many countries - our west coast (on the Tasman Sea) is always rough and rocky, like your photo here.
TFS and for the history lesson too,
Janice

Hi Bob

Excellent composition with beautiful colours and tones. I really like the forms of the dead umbellifers at the bottom of the shot.

James

Hi Bob,

nice seacap picture, I like the stucture of the white waves.
Good intersting note too.

You looks like a cowboy in the workshop but no revolver but instead a camera.
I were even young too in 1983.
Maybe I shall posted sometimes also a picture in the workshop.

Hello Bob,
Again this marvellous view on this seascape. What I like in your shots are next to the beauty of this area, the very fine colours, the variety of finest blue and grey. Something for a a painter's eye.
Very American looking man in the workshop!!
Best regards
Anne

Namastay Bob,
What a smart looking guy who is he? Is he you? :). BTW congratulate Jane on behalf of me for taking such a nice photograph. very well done Jane. Now the main work. The half land and half sky composition works very fine here. Very well done. Thanks a lot for sharing.

Sincerely
HP

Hi Bob,

The curve of the beach is an asset to the composition. The point of view going in between the rocks like an aim toward the horizon which is giving depth to the picture. The filtered light is giving a good contrast to the colors. Have a nice day.

Pierre

First I beg apology that I failed to reply on right time.Convey my thanks to your grand children and others. And your picture and note ... as beautiful as you are.
