American White Pelican

Heavest flying bird ..

They look silly on the beach, but so graceful in the air. These were shoot on a small lake in Central Ca., they summer in Alberta and the Dakota's. Ready to breed, the males grow a horn like structure on their bills. Their seems to be nearly 20 that winter at the local lake. More transit, to places further south. I was kayaking, and spooked them, some flew right over my head. From looking at their scat on the beach, they eat everthing in the lake.

Wing span 10 feet, magestic in flight.

Hello Scott,

Pin sharp details, and I have to smile seeing the different postures!
The white birds are skilfully exposed, movement is perfectly frozen...
Nice work, well done!

Greetings,

Hello Scott,
Good to see you again.
I am glad to see that you are still kayaking in Central CA.
These pelicans are just beautiful. I never tire of watching them, in flight or on land.
You achieved great sharpness of these birds in motion and you caught them in a pleasing arrangement in the sky. Great POV to see their weird horn structure on their beak. Good exposure on the whites against the great blue sky.
TFS. : )

Beautiful in-flight capture Scott.
The birds are very beautiful against the bright blue sky. Love the way they all seem to have a different wing stroke. The detail and sharpness is very impressive. Well done!!!

Hello Scott,
Sorry we didn't hook up, but you help was great we had a ball at Moss Landing the 4 days we were there. When I left the message on your phone I was worried you were busy at work. What a great inflight of these Pelicans, so sharp and great shutter speed to freeze the wings. Great job and thanks once again.
