Shasta Lake is man made and is a reservoir caused by the US Army corps of Engineers making of a large dam on the Sacramento River, and is the third largest lake in California behind the Salton Sea and Lake Tahoe.

This image was taken on a film camera (*Borrowed Mamiya), on a trip we took from the wilderness in NE Washington to a storage area we had near Sacramento California in 1992. This was the last year of the 5 year drought in California and the banks of the Shasta Lake can tell the tale as good as words. This is the lowest point at which the lake could be. Many boats were in their docks but the water was 20-30 feet away so they sat on dry land while moored.

By 1995 this area along with many others in Northern California were flooded. All things in natural cycles. And from this location headed North on Interstate 5, it is a long and high climb to the base of Mt Shasta which looms large over much of Northern California. the whole area is rich with tales of Native Americans of many tribes. In parts of Northern California there are legends and stories that go on for decades...it is a land rich in history...

Hi Bob.
Lovely composition showing the dry plants against the lake edge and out over the lake to the hills in the distance.
Colour, detail and exposure are great.

Hi Bob,

A beautiful view of Shasta Lake showing the drought conditions. It reminds me of Lake Dillon in Colorado when it looked even worse than this. Fortunately the last time I saw it it was mostly back to normal.

Hi Bob,isn't easy to found a landscape whitout green color inside. This is an example fantastic,i like a lot the point of view and ,as usual, your perfect work from the analog to digital, thanks for share,Luciano

Hello Bob,
I especially like the contrasting colors, the blues, whites, grays and golden browns combine for a beautiful image.
Funny you used a Mamiya Secor for this shot. That was the first really nice camera that I owned. I liked it a lot, but the metering system went haywire and the camera shop owner told me it would cost more to fix then it was worth. TFS.

Hi Bob

A lovely shot - well balanced composition with nice colours. The strand line is well demonstrated here.

Hi Bob,

The point of of view takes us accross the lake toward the mountains in the background. The curve of the beach is an asset to the composition. the colors are enhanced by the good light. A scenery that is giving a relaxation feeling. Have a nice day.

Hello Bob,
Very interesting point of view and for me most beautiful earth-colors combined with the blue of the lake. I like this picture a lot, a view to let the spirit just float over this Californian landscape.
Un grand merci

Hey Bob! You should give lessons on composition and I'd be the first to sign up! That's quite a beauty you did there, very impressive image and an original pov, well done again!
