Here is the time, I remember it well, when I could get down on the ground...not only on all fours but flat on my stomach. Shot at 12 inches US above ground level. I used a short depth of field in order to isolate the California Poppies and Red clover, while keeping only the blue notion of ocean (*that rhymes)..

Due to the California Coastal Commission, the entire length of the states oceanside is protected in order to preserve a persons ability for access. As opposed the Atlantic Coast which has homes and private places along most of the ocean, California is open for almost the whole state. Even in crowded Santa Monica there are access paths to the beach which remains in public holding for all to enjoy.

On Todd's point where this image was taken, the large empty bluffs are filled with California Poppies and Red clover along with a mix of sea oats and other odds and ends of flora and wild grasses. And because of the open access for a few hundred miles, I and Jane were the only ones here this day as we were on most.... watching for whales....

Hi Bob!

Now that the autumn is knocking at our door, it's a pleasure to have a last look on poppies and clovers. Here, the first trees begin to change their colour.

Today, you present us a simple, yet very pleasant picture and I like the way you connect it to your souvenirs.

Kind regards

Markus

Hello Bob,

I like very much the diagonal composition in this seascape and the colours which are vivid with the help of a beautiful sunlight.
Cheers,
Mariki

Ciao Bob, splendid composition with wonderful focus on flowers in FG, good colors, great romantic atmosphere, very well done, ciao Silvio

Ahhh... to get down again on one's knees or stomach... and "then to get up again" without any pain... :) To be honest though, when I am out in nature and/or out with my camera... the pains seem minimal and I find that I can go all day. My daughter, her boyfriend, my wife, and I were recently at Longwood Gardens on a rather hot, humid, very sunny day. By the end of the day, my daughter remarked that I was the one still going strong while they were all getting a bit weary... attitude is everything... uh... well... it accounts for a lot anyway... ;)

Nice presented and composed Bob... TFS.

Hi Bob,Wow,that Pacific Ocean is a real aqua colour isn't it (thats my sons name,Aqua).
Its great to see these Californian Poppies in their natural evironment.
Mine are in a herbaceous border, surrounded by Cornflowers,Linaria,Love In A Mist, and other types of poppies.
Cool shot.
Cheers
Steve

Delightful low POV coastal shot. The sharpness is excellent and the composition of this cliff edge with coastal flowers is great with the OOF Pacific in the BG.
I don't think the pink flowers are clovers though, Bob. They look like Sea-pinks or Thrift (Armeria maritima ssp californica).
Thanks and have a great weekeend,
Ivan

Hi Bob,

This is a great shot with the deep blue color background. TFS.

Regards

Umar

Hy Bob
I like very much the foreground with this smaal plants and the blue (2 types of blue) in the backgound. The low POV is also great

Hi Bob,

I can still get down on the ground but once I'm there I may never get up! This is such a pretty scene with the poppies and clover - only a memory for me. The flowers stand out so well. I do miss sights like this.

Jane

Hello Bob,
Thank you for sharing this great shot which happened 26 years ago which captured perfectly to me!
I loved the pov and especially the dof on the well-lighted fg vegetation and flowers!
the colour contrast is first class!
my respect!
cheers
Tony

Hi Bob
Very cool shot. It almost looks 3D. I like the low pov and how the FG pops out at you. Great job! I just started posting on TL And you have some GREAT STUFF!! there too. I have been really enjoying these shots from the early days and like always the story's that go with them. TFS
Best regards
Tom

A lovely scene with a fine backdrop from those frothy waves, Bob. I like the contrast between sea and shore, as you've set it, and the way your flowers are crisp well into the background. Nice depth of field control. It definitely has the feel of summer. Interesting note, too.

Hi Bob,
Wonderful sea-side view with such amazing colours and fine details. Very pleasant place to be in and you have portrayed it in all its glory. Superb DOF and POV and the composition is simply majestic. Thanks for sharing this beauty.

Hi Bob,

A beautiful land/seascape image, really like the diagonal line you've created, colours and detail are perfect, and the shallow d.o.f just adds to an already amazing shot, wonderful work,

Cheers Rick :)

Namastay Bob,
How did you remember the shutter speed and aperture settings (asking because I have never worked or seen a SLR in my life). A nice capture of this beautiful landscape shot. But i would have preferred posting it as a large post. I can feel the fresh breeze of Atlantic. Well captured and thanks a lot for sharing.

Sincerely
HP

Hi Bob
First of all I like wide frame and nice 3dimensional effect. Beautiful place, nice low POV I like it very much

Hi Bob,

A nice close-up image of the red clover and of the California poppies surrounded by the Pacific ocean in the background. The details and colors of the flower are clear and precise. The colors are enhanced by the quality of the light. Have a nice day.

Hello Bob,
What an old and beautiful capture of the Atlantic coast from a nice low POV showing the pretty Thrift and Poppies in the foreground. Thrift is common along British coasts and here in the south of Sweden too. Beautiful natural colours and well composed.
TFS and regards, Ulla

Hi Bob

A very interesting approach here, pal...not something you've used us with. However, i'm always up for new challenges and i can say, with the hand on my heart, that i like it!
The original composition worked very well and the shallow DOF enhanced the features, textures and colors of this natural side of the beach.
Very nice low POV and excellent exposure control here, too.

Bravo and TFS

Hey Bob!
This is very artistic and I have to say... I like it! :-)
The shallow DOF is very effective.
Great sharpness.
The BG is as good as it gets :-)

Well done!

Hello Bob! Another great landscape shot! I like the way the focus is on the foreground instead, well done, thanks!

Mario

For this POV, you had to lie on your stomach, Bob. Considering the beauty of the shot, the effort was worth its while. This is yet another fabulous shot going back to 1982.
The flower strewn foreground contrasts beautifully with the OOF sea in the background. The sloping contour of the land splits the frame into two rough triangles, making it a great composition.
Your images from the past are a treat to the eyes.

Hello Bob,

That's a beautiful image, I can almost hear the surf and smell the ocean. An excellent composition, you're lucky to have experienced that.

Thanks for sharing,
John
