This image was taken from a location on the road less traveled, US 97 somewhere between Mt Hebron and cougar, place names only on very good maps. I am coming S into California having just crossed over the Oregon California line about 20 minutes prior and at dusk. As you can see it is already time for headlights at my location but the mountain looms so high that it gets quite a bit of the suns late light..and the close appearance is because I am using a rare combination of lens...I believe, and could be corrected, but am almost surely using a 135 mm with a 2x extender, thus causing the mountain to be a bit closer and larger than the small mountain in the foreground.

This is a scan of a small print picture. I passed this way often and I call Rt 97 the road less traveled because the majority of transports use the Interstate Highway. I chose this way as it is slower and prettier...but MUCH more rugged once I get north of Bend when heading back into Washington out of Oregon. Much of the area north of this spot is higher desert type....while beyond the horizon (what little can be seen-NONE) or beyond the mountain lay the Sacramento Valley which is good growing in some areas and full of volcanic rock from Shasta to Mt Lassen.

This area I consider to be a Power Location, which is a concept that would take a book to write about. It is between active and semi active..not sure but I do NOT believe Mt Shasta is considered a dormant volcano. Scary thought!

I wouldn't have had the faintest idea where this mountain is without your note Bob.
Though it has a distance haze about it, it looks like a good scan and well composed.
Thanks for acquainting me with Mt. Shasta!
Ivan

Hi Bob,

I'm so glad your scans of pre-digital pictures turn out so well because I am getting to see so much of the Pacific Northwest that I have never seen. I don't think I have even seen a picture of Mount Shasta before.

Wow! That looks tall!
This is a real classic snow-capped mountain which you have photographed very well, Bob.
I love the composition.
Excellent atmosphere.

Well done,
Joe

Your scanned photos turn out so well Bob... nice to know that you can reclaim and present such fine shots. And as always it is informative and fun to read your storybook notes... makes everything all the more special.
