There is nothign "spectacular" about this view but there is a great sense of "here is where I am". This was taken on the outskirts of Cheney, the city, where it meets the wheat fields, then transforms slowly into Palouse grasslands. The first gray blue mountain is Mica Peak in Washington on the border of Idaho and the second lighter gray blue is another mountain range over 150 crow miles from where I stand and inside Idaho.

On this day, two days ago, I sensed the "Change"... Fall is only a few days away and already the colours are a deep golden, some dry, yet there is a green patch every so often...and even through the haze, one feels that lingering sultry summer having a hard time loosing it's grip. will we have an Indian Summer? Are there signs in nature? I have seen a few squirrels but not too many. The bees are angry as they usually are at this time, striking out at everyone with no cause, knowing their life span is about to end. And the corn stalks are mostly picked. The remaining look sad and drooping..Yes! There is the sense of Fall coming in this landscape...

I've seen this view many times, but for one reason or another have not been able to capture it on my Nikon or Fuji...so this is a first, perhaps two. This was the first time I was able to capture the subtle tonal changes and I did it and post for the first time with my Canon HG10 HD video camera which also shoots in still mode at 3 megapixels...

Hello Bob,
What a fine composition showing the view across to the Palouse grasslands with the mountains beyond from a nice POV. Wonderful colours too. Your summer seems to have been very short, here in the south of Sweden it's still all green but it's rapidly getting colder and darker. Interesting note but I wish we had a reference map on TN to show whereabouts images are from. I'll have to look up your latitude!!
TFS and best wishes, Ulla

Hi Bob. This is a very good landscape . What i do like the the different layers of colour. From the sky ,to the distant hills , then down to the fields and trees. As you say in you notes the fall is on the way, I was in the Forest yesterday and leaves were starting to fall . TFS.
Nick..

hello bob,
you have captured the subtle tonal changes with perfection, the various layers makes the landscape so beautiful, as usual a great landscape from a great human,
well done sir,
tfs & regards
pankaj

Hello Bob
You cannot say that is nothing spectacular in this picture. I suppose that every one could imagine everything that they want. For me, this picture reminds me the hills from my childhood, at country. Even if it simple, i like the warm - green - warm combination.
All the best, Oana

Hi Bob,

A wonderful landscape that surely shows the difference between the Northwest and the Southwest. Beautiful layers of the wheat fields, the green green trees, the plains and the mountains in the distance. There are no changes down here yet - maybe in another month.

Jane

Hello Bob,
I love this time of the year when the wheat fields turn that golden color. Beautiful scene composed very well, showing a small part of this great nation.
The contrasting colors of the wheat fields, green tree line and light blue hues in the mountains and sky combine for a wonderful image.
Ron

Hi Bob,
very good strong horizontal elements to this one, i like the thin stripe of green running along the middle, it breaks up the dried grasses nicely. I also think the hazy, gentle curves of the hills in the background counter the strong linear feel of the FG...nicely done and well seen.

Namastay Bob,
A very nice widescreen landscape. Very well composed with lovely colors and very nice view. Thanks a lot for sharing.

Sincerely

The orange tones here are lovely!
I love the different layers too.
Great sharpness.
Excellent composition.

Keep 'em coming!

Joe

Hi Bob,

The point of view takes our eyes toward the mountains in the background which is giving depth to the picture. The different types of lines of the scenery are assets to the composition. The light brings out the best of the colors. Have a nice day.

Pierre

The colours of fall always do this thing to me...Is it sadness that creeps in?Not that I know, but it's a strange 'low' feel!
Love the earthy shades and the perfect composition, a la Bob Shannon.
