I am standing on the side of the Pacific Coast Highway taking this picture looking to the South East. If I were to turn 45 degrees to the right, you would see the ocean and bluffs. This unowned property has a direct view of the coastline. It also has a direct line to the in and out fog which hugs the shoreline almost every day in the summer.

Fog comes in and out many times during the day At the point this image was taken in 1983, the fog was slowly creeping in. It was at that point I turned my car around and went back home but not before grabbing an image...there could never be enough images, even if poor and film were expensive. Photography was not only a passion, it border lined on being an obsession. Fortunately though I never crossed over that border, knowing that if I did the choice would be to eat dinner or buy a roll of film. Yes..it was that bad financially for me at the time.

Ocean fog is usually a thing which cause locals to mutter obscenities...I chose not to. Instead I chose to find the beauty in the fog, and I was never displeased. Believe this....anything we still own from this long ago still carries with it that "Mendocino smell". It is a cross between mold, mildew and must....I chose to call it a fragrant perfume.

Talk to me of Mendocino
Closing my eyes I hear the sea
Must I wait
Must I follow
Won't you say come with me

As sung by Linda Ronstadt

Aha... neighbors again... :) Good Morning Bob... hope this fine day finds you happy and well. Yes... it was a struggle for me too before the advent of the digital camera. Raising a family on a teacher's pay and having a "love affair" with photography... :) I love the fog, the morning mist, rain, and snow... yes I am a bit different too. Well done.

Larry

Hy Bob
When I see a picture with fog, I always remember a Romanian philosopher, Emil Cioran, how was a kind of nihilist, loving the fog and not the sun. He said something like:I love the fog, I feel that I lost myself…unfortunately, I don’t remember exactly the words, but I remember the idea. And I feel also that I lost in that moving fog that you capture.
I like most the silhouettes of the trees in the background….Thanks for sharing.

Hi Bob, i love fog too...getting lost in a real Pea Souper is a great experience. Your post today reminds me of the desert areas along the Pacific coast of somewhere in South America, where lush plants grow, the water provided purely by the daily sea fog that rolls in from where cold water meets warm. The composition in this is excellent, you've positioned yourself and the light just right.

Nice moodiness and a great scene! Rolling hills, big oaks, pasture. Sounds like a pretty place to settle from the note and looks like it from the picture. Nice capture!

Hi Bob,

I wouldn't mind owning that property!! The fog rolling in over the hills and that wonderful tree make a beautiful scene. My only experience with fog was getting stuck in a white-out on the New Jersey Turnpike. No picture there.

Jane

Hello Bob. Excellent shot from a very fast optics. The sharpness and details are flawless and the fog on the ground with endless horizon making this shot rather dreamy. I like the framing with excellent sharp details in the foreground and Linda might be right about the lyrics from here. Best regards and TFS. Jusni

hello Bob

WOW ! what a splendid landscape shot with the fog,
fine POV, DOF and i would say framing, because i love
on way of the frame the tree(s) and the other way the open field,

Beautiful shot Bob,
I love this time of the early morning when the fog is still hugging the ground. This is the time of the day when all the critters are either waking up or about to go to bed after a long night of trampling about.
Lately we've been waking up to the fog every morning hear in Stark County. TFS.

Hi Bob,

Really nice mood you've captured here the only thing missing is the sound of the fog horn blowing in the distance, and the occasional cry of a passing seagull, excellent composition with superb detail, t.f.s this beauty.

Cheers Rick :)

Hi Bob,
Very well done on the post production work, this is a very nice scene well captured. We did notice the in and out movement of the fog on the coast really strange for a prairie bumkin. Thanks for sharing Bob.

Hello Bob,
My memories of thick fog in England are no joy and I don't particularly like the sea fog we get here either, its cold and grey but I do love it in photography!! This is a beautiful capture with the mist rolling in over the hills like dancing elves!
Many thanks and regards, Ulla
