Taken on Pentax K1000 in 1989

This is my back yard in the wilderness...we called this north 10 acres, Tipi Hill becuase we used to have a tipi pitched up there...it was the highest point on my property at 3600 feet. The cabin was behind me as I took this and down 200 feet in a meadow. there is a picture of the cabin I took with a Polaroid in the workshop.

These are both red and white fir trees, large in girth..amongst them are various wildflowers such as wild daisy's and what not....also many small wild strawberries, yarrow and Oregon grape..

Keep in mind that there really are no neighbors here. I have 20 acres which borders the Colville National Forest. We had no electricity (*used solar), no running water (we hauled it and used creek water for dishes and washing), no TV nor radio, no telephone (*nearest was 2 miles down a rugged hill. We did however have all sorts of wildlife, including Cougar. From this hill we saw our first cougar close up. We then moved the tip down near the cabin and renamed this Cougar hill:-)

It was spring. It will be spring again in 1/2 year.

Your memories of this wilderness are fantastic and I, for one, sure look forward your notes and pictures of then. To have such a great forest in the backyard, I mean, that is peaceful. And if I was an animal, I would like to be a cougar. Bye bye and thank you!

Francine

This is just beautiful, simple but to representative of your wild region. There must be a lot of animal activities going on there... I like those tones of colors and great details. Thanks for this nice presentation,

A superb habitat shot Bob! Great side lighting showing the vegetation in the spring.
To have had such an environment virtually on your doorstep is a naturalists dream! And to have owned it: Wow what a responsiblity!
Thanks for sharing this fine glimpse into your past and the natural world that you lived in.

Hi Bob,

Such memories of the past!!! I like the pastel shades which all come together to make this image. One's eye can just lazily move around and look into each part of it but all the parts make a whole.

Hi Bob,

A beautiful page from your book of memories. A wonderful spring scene and every day must have been an adventure. Let's see - in 1989 I was living right outside of Princeton and it seems ages ago.

Jane

Hi Bob,

You have a nice piece of backyard.
Greart wildernis, no tv, computers and radio?
You get real nature back!
Back to nature and listen to the animals and birds.

Nice the different green colours.

Gert

Namastay Bob,

Hi Bob. Thanks for your kind comments yesterday. Your picture today of your land as it was then is beautiful. I can see why you feel in love with this place, although a hard place to survive with a young growing family . You have a good compostion capturing the fresh air feel to the place. . well done TFS.

Hi Bob,
What a nice memory awakener my friend, the wild strawberries in the Cypress Hills are soooo delicious. Just the other day in Yellowstone I saw an elderly gentleman walk up to a female elk with a polariod and take a picture. Thanks for sharing Bob.
Rick

I could be very happy in a place like this... perhaps a bit of Thoreau (or maybe just hermit blood) in me. Don't get me wrong... I am very happy now. It's just that a part of me seeks the seclusion of nature and its closeness to a simple, uncluttered life.

Very beautiful Bob... TFS

Larry

hello bob,
your memories of the wilderness shows how much you like it and how much you enjoyes the beauty of raw nature, it comes straight from your heart, i loved the natural colors and the composition,
well done,
tfs & regards

What a fantastic abode you had 20 years ago, Bob!
The workshop image of your cabin in B&W gives a historic perspective to this picture of lovely shrubs and trees facing your cabin. It must have been a great experience to live at such a beautiful place.
The image looks fresh and colorful, making it difficult to believe it was taken 2 decades ago.
Thanks and regards.

Hello Bob

A beautiful lighting in this shot.
The colours are excellent with sharp details.
The terrain is different there than it is here, and seeing images like this make me want to explore that area.
I can imagine hiking up that slope and the smell of the pines.

Hi Bob,

Spring is a wake up call for nature. The trees are nicely framed by the flowers groing around them. The scenery is giving a sensation of tranquillity. The light is enhancing the colors. Have a nice dya.

Back home where my mom is, our house is pretty close to my fav haunt, the Jim Corbett National Park. Deers of various species are a common sight on our roads, as are tigers, which sadly, do not know the boundaries of the Tiger Reserve. 6 months back, a huge, interstate truck rolled onto a sleeping tigeress, two miles down the road from my place. That you have cougars near/on your property is very interesting! You must also have a lot of their prey visiting your land often!
And amazing shot, and an amazng note, as usual!
Cheers!
Goldy

Hello Bob,
Having been away for some days I discover your last pictures. I have a great sympathy for this "back yard" picture. It must have beeen wonderful to live in such a beautiful and natural surrounding!( Even if I was living in town, we didn't have a car nor telephone and television at home, in my childhood. And I still have no car!)
Best regards from Switzerland
Anne
