[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
This is an Adult Great Blue Heron in breeding Plumage.
Hes attempting to swallow a Florida Gar which he speared with that lethal bill just minutes before.

These Birds are known for trying to eat anything they can kill regardless of its size or weight. It took this one 15 minutes before it was finally able to lift the fish (about 24inches long) high enough to tilt its head back and swallow in.
This was shot at the Loxahatchee Water-Shed Area about an hour after sunrise from 50 yards away.
