I was attracted to this spray of autumn vine maple leaves that seems to "flow" across the frame. I think the colors are "yummy"!

Acer circinatum (Vine Maple) is a species of maple native to western North America, from southwest British Columbia to northern California, always within 300 km of the Pacific Ocean coast. I am fairly certain that this is a vine maple although this is pretty far inland. It was used by the native peoples of western Canada and the USA.

"The Quinault tribe’s word for maple is maxo’ atcalnix, meaning the basket tree. Both the Quinault and Makah took advantage of the long flexible shoots from the trees to make baskets for hauling wood, clams and fish. In addition, the Quinault used the wood for fires and mixed the charcoal with oil to make a black paint. Chehalis, Lummi, Quileute and Quinault utilized the vine maple to make fish traps. The tree was employed to hold down roof planks on houses. From saplings, the Skagit tribe made swings for baby cradles and salmon tongs. Modesse and Shuswap tribes weaved snowshoes out of the shoots.

"Clallams dried the sap to eat and possibly ate it fresh. My favorite of all the uses were by the Karok in California, where the women made a love potion out of the branches. Where is the recipe?" : )

A lovely composition ,the maple leaves really do seem to cascade through the frame.
The shot is brimming with autumn.
Very good light and colour.
You have struck a very good balance between conifer and maple.
It is impressive to see just how many hues one tree can produce.

Well, Evelynn, take me back or forward, as the case may be, to the sap running from the maples and fresh, warm, pure syrup on the flapjacks, and I'll grant you "yummy." :)

But even without being so literal, the cascade of color is quite beautiful. I like the range of tonality, and the juxtaposition against the evergreens.

A most interesting note, to boot!

Great colours on this pretty maple. I was in horticulture for many years so I'm familiar with many N American Acer species grown in the UK as ornamentals, but this one is new to me. Excellent composition and good use of the conifer (Abies of some kind?) as natural contrast.

Warmly coloured leaves of that maple look so enticing besides the evergreen conifer, both captured with fine exposure and sharp focus. The diagonal light band so nice in this fine square composition. TFS this beautiful image.

Absolutely gorgeous image Evelynn,
The contrasting diagonal composition of colors is very eye pleasing. Funny how some of the leaves are so bright red while others have barely a hint of color to them.
Your notes are very interesting, I love reading about all the many uses the early tribes had for the plants and trees that we see every day yet take for granted. TFS.

I like the curved diagonal line in this photo. it gives the composition a good dynamic feel. The wonderful subtlety of the different color fo the vine maple leaves are great and also gives a good view on how these leaves change in color. The almost square format makes the composition probably even stronger.
