| [Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note |
This wild iris was growing on the 800 foot tall cliffs of Cape Lookout on the Oregon Coast. It is near a plaque commemorating the crash of a B-17 bomber on a foggy day in 1943.
In looking up Wild Iris' I found a great web site with a wealth of information. WILD GROWING PACIFIC COAST NATIVE IRIS I'm not sure which of the 11 varieties of wild iris this one is.
I emailed the web site with a link to this photo and Debby says it's a Iris douglasiana, Thanks!
From the web site about identification:
"The main difficulty in identifying wild Pacific Coast iris is caused by their willingness to cross pollinate whenever their ranges overlap. The eleven species are easy to described based on their unique features, but many individual plants can be difficult or impossible to assign to one of those species. If your iris comes from one of those places where the ranges of two or three different species overlap, it may very well show the features of two or more species."
So I'll leave identity up to the experts! Otherwise I'll just enjoy the beauty of the flower on the clifftop. |

Hlo Lori.
Wow, what a shot of this beautiful Iris! I think this may be on the top ten list of your photos? Very beautiful and the gray skies in the background allows for perfect exposure control.
Well Done...

Beautiful image Lori!!
Love the composition and sharp detail you captured. The color and texture of the petals are wonderful. The water droplets are and added bonus to this outstanding photo. The web site is as you said, very informative. TFS.

Bonjour Lori,
Agréable publication dans laquelle le sujet est bien valorisé par la finesse des détails et la délicatesse des couleurs malgré une faible opposition entre le haut de la fleur et l'arrière plan.
A bientôt sur TN pour de nouvelles aventures.
