She may not possess the magnificent coloration of her husband, but I believe this female duck still wears a beautiful plumage all her own.

It is a well know fact that in the world of birds, the female species usually have much duller feathers then their male counterparts.

I'm sure this is due to the protective camouflage coloration that is necessary for concealment, as she incubates her eggs.

After closely studying this little female Mallard I realized she was adorned perfectly!!...for the important part she plays in the life of a mother duck!

Hi Ron,

You have captured the female mallard's more subdued beauty just perfectly. I love how her beak matches her gorgeous feathers. Colors and details are magnificent. The lovely eye is wonderful and shines through the black marking. Excellent reflections and the bright orange leg paddling underwater is terrific. Even the water is something special.

I completely agee with you - female mallads are just as beautiful ! You have captured her discrete beauty with excellent details and beautiful colors. I also like here pose, the way her orange leg stands out, and the smooth and soft surface of the water with nice reflection of the duck. Very well done !
