Spring Flow on the Peshtigo
 |
|
| [Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note |
I came upon this rugged scene while visiting half a score of Wisconsin waterfalls last Saturday, and I've tried to capture some of the essence of rock and forest and pristine waters here.
Goodman Park, on the Peshtigo River at Strong Falls, was developed by the Dunbar Civilian Conservation Corps from 1936 to 1938 as a showcase of the recreational use of county forest.
It affords the visitor lodges and bridges and trails -- many unique and beautiful vantage points from which to see the falls and get close to the river, for either a day trip or an extended stay.
There are some rugged, bumpy, dusty roads in this neck of the woods, but I wouldn't hesitate to return to this place.
During my visit, I was so impressed by the beauty of this place, and found such diversity of photographic opportunity, that I’ve chosen three distinct posts, one here, and one each to Trek Earth and Trek Lens. |

Nobody seems to remember you Jim. I do. Come visit me. It can't hurt.

Hi Jim,
I love these kind of places. It feels raw and untamed. I like the way the river found is path around some of the trees and created these little islands.
On the technical part. I think your photo could have benefited from a grad ND filter and a smaller aperture. This would allow a better exposed sky and more details throughout.
TFS,
Niek

Hello Jim,
This looks like a wonderful place to be! I like your composition facing upstream and the slabs of rock are beautiful. It seems a little soft to me but the colours are natural and wonderful.
TFS and regards, Ulla

Hi Jim,
That's a really beautiful scene. The combination of water and rocks is exceptional, and everything leads the eye into the picture. Don't usually see scenics here on TN.
I see you're near Appleton, Wisconsin, pretty country. I get to visit up Merrill on occasion, and have a few shots here that I took around that area.
Thanks,
John
