While spending a wonderful week in Lodi, California with one of my best friends, we went to the Mickie Grove Zoo (hopefully, I got that right!), and this eagle caught my attention. It was one of two. This one, as you can see, is blind in one eye, making it nearly impossible for her to see on her own.

Another eagle shared the same run with her; it, too, was a baldy and had been shot in the wing. That one they returned to the wild, but thanks to the technology we have today, they were able to track the progress it made, or in his case, lack of progress.

Realizing if they didn't rescue the eagle once more it wouldn't survive, the made the decision to retrieve the injured eagle and keep it in captivity so that it would survive.

I got close enough to this one to blur out the fence in front of her, and while I normally don't take head-on photos (wanting to avoid dead-centering my subjects), this one seemed made to break my normal rule.

It was wonderful to see this majestic bird up close, and while I prefer the ones in the wild (of which I have plenty of those as well!), the need for this one to be taken care of is great.

Even blind, the way she watched me did not escape my attention. She still has her sharp beak and her talons - neither of which I'd like a bad run-in with because blind or not, I'd be on the losing end!

I'm glad to be home, but already miss my friend. Also, I fear I'm quite tired, but I'm actually happy that I have a doctor's appointment the first part of next week - I miss my energy!

(That last bit I tossed in so y'all will know that I am not ignoring you or this wonderful site...)
Hugs to all,
Kathy :-)

The description provided is also interesting.
Have a beautiful weekend,
Adrian

I can certainly attest to your being tired...what a time you have come through...mother passing, making a major move in residence shortly after and a couple of long trips....with your condition??? I am amazed at what you can do still...and our prayers go with you Kathy. (*To others..I just saw Kathy walking up the road....tired as can be and not her own self at all...I want you all to know she loves TN and your input)and to put it into perspective..I was in the electric wheelchair and she was barely walking...We make quite the pair!
