...have just been watching a little bit of Spongebob.


I discovered him on a beach in Key West,
Spongebob and Patrick were not around though....*g*

Crabs are decapod crustaceans of the infraorder
Brachyura. They are generally covered with a thick
exoskeleton, and armed with a single pair of chelae
(claws). 6,793 species are known. Crabs are found in
all of the world's oceans. Additionally, there are
also many freshwater and terrestrial crabs,
particularly in tropical regions. Crabs vary in size
from the pea crab, only a few millimetres wide, to the
Japanese spider crab, with a leg span of up to 4 m.

Crabs are mostly active animals with complex behaviour
patterns. They can communicate by drumming or waving
their pincers. Crabs tend to be aggressive towards one
another and males often fight to gain access to
females. On rocky seashores, where nearly all caves
and crevices are occupied, crabs may also fight for
the best hiding holes.

Crabs are omnivores, feeding primarily on algae, and
taking any other food, including molluscs, worms,
other crustaceans, fungi, bacteria and detritus,
depending on their availability and the crab species.
For many crabs, a mixed diet of plant and animal
matter results in the fastest growth and greatest
fitness.

Hi Thorsten,
That's what I call a sharp image. Not only the details are sharp, the claws of the crab are sharp as well. I like the choise of the shallow DOF and like the shiny reflection if the crap. It looks like it was ready to attack your lens.

Hi Thorsten . You to have something a bit different today. We dont see to many Crabs on TN. You have taken this with a very low POV . Good detail in the legs and large claws . All with natural colouirs. interesting notes to go with this fine picture. well done TFS.

HA! Sun bob...is that still the rage or what..I love these little buggers. Used to play with them on teh beaches in Florida..hide and peek...Very nice...posed right where it lives!

The macro shot of the crab with an unbelievable sharpness! The colors are vivid with great sharpness of the claws. The golden white small pebbles give nice contrast to the colors of the crab. I highly admire this great work!

I see you've been to the Sates...cool! And you've come back with a lot of great photos ;)
This is a superb shot of this crab, taken from a full frontal POV that creates this dramatic and excellent composition.
I also really like your choice of DOF - deep enough to retain all important details from the thongs and head but also shallow enough to blur the BG.
Very well managed exposure and beautiful colors, too.
Great work my friend, with your other shots, too.
