A caterpillar I found on the beach in northern Michigan. I really liked its colors.

As for the photo, it was taken with a relatively cheap early generation Sony digital I received from work.

A very interesting image to begin. Great textures, colours and shapes. DOF is a bit short at the front so the image is a bit soft, but still worths very much posting. The composition makes it! Welcome to TN, hope to see more photos soon.

Welcome to TN Dave, and interesting image you choice for a 1st post, I like the colours and the form of the caterpillar in its rolled up defensive posture. what lets it down is the very shallow DOF (Depth of Focus/Field) where only the inner legs are sharply in focus. The use of a higher F number may of helped. it would help to advise you in future posts if you include the camera and the settings used to capture the image. It's a little soft and with shallow DOF but nice POV and beautiful colours.

Hi Dave,
This colourful caterpillar is of a noctuid moth, Ceramica picta (Noctuidae). I've managed to recognize the genus because it looks very similar to our common species, Ceramica pisi.
