After the exciting tour of the Everglades at Shark
Valley i foud this colorful grasshopper along the way -
it is a nymph of the (Eastern) Lubber Grasshopper
[Romalea guttata]

Romalea guttata, known commonly as the "eastern lubber
grasshopper" or just "lubber grasshopper," is a
grasshopper native to the southeastern and south
central portion of the United States. Populations
exist in Alabama, Mississippi, Georgia, Florida,
Louisiana, and South Carolina. It is the most
distinctive grasshopper species within the
southeastern United States, and is well known both for
its size and its unique coloration. It can reach
nearly 8 cm in size.

It was previously known as Romalea microptera.

The insect emits a foul-smelling secretion when it is
disturbed which is dark colored and opaque.

Another great macro copntribution!
I like this intense colored grasshopper! The textures are well defined and so are the sharpness, POV and DOF. The artistic green leaf gives nice contrast to the black-yellow colored insect.
Very well composed!

A wonderful macro of this very colorful little grasshopper in a nice pose on the leaf. Excellent details of the face, body and legs. Colors are vivid and beautiful. Very nicely composed.
