| [Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note |
This spider I found crawling around on my carpet. It was approximately 1 cm in length and belongs to the family Agelenidae, the funnel weavers. It is a male, as it's front two pedipalps are swollen with sperm.
I needed a good focus on the eyes, as that is really the best way to identify a spider (by the eye arrangement).
I set the contrast a bit high and exposed as much as I could while trying for a shallow depth of field to exaggerate the size of him (how a mosquito might see him).
Note: after a year of having this picture around, I just noticed that it's missing one of its left legs! |

Wow, strange POV. It's funny you noticed the leg missing after a year. Nice post.

Hello Dave,
A marvellous macro! I find it curious about the leg, as if I were seeing at least half of it, but am probably wrong. At any rate, a very interesting, beautiful shot... I uploaded one also on TrekEarth but made of bronze and steel :-)

Great shot Dave. I liked your note as much as your picture. Would you have an URL with information regarding spider identification?
