I took several photographs of this swallowtail but I think this one was the best. Hard (for me) to capture as it was constantly on the move, this one spoke to me of what is really important in life and from where we get the greatest joy.
"Fame, pleasure and riches
are but husks and ashes
in contrast with the boundless and abiding joy
of working with God
for the fulfillment of his eternal plans."
- J. Campbell White
Taken hand-held, 12X zoom fully extended, on a very bright and sunny mid-morning... auto everything and with some PP work. |

Hi Larry,
It's hard to believe that this Swallowtail was hard to get! He is posed so perfectly on the flowers that he looks as if you had placed him there. The position is wonderful, colors and details of the butterfly and flowers are magnificent. As beautifully composed as all of your pictures. The framing is perfect.

Great shot Larry,
Love the composition and the way the light seems to illuminate the wings from above. Well done!!
The Black Swallowtail have been really difficult for me to photograph this year, because as you already stated, they don't seem to sit still for very long.

Hi Larry,
I'm impressed whit the results in your photos whith 12x zoom. You're take advantage of environnment ligth whith very skill! I know how hard is manage the ligth whith compact/bridge cameras zoomed, and make a good shot. You make that it seems "easy"!
Congratulations and TFS!
