Nice composition of diagonals and play of shadows and tones, and the foreground and distance give it perspective.

There is a similar landscape in South Utah in Capitol Reef NP. I clicked to see where this was and was surprised.

Inderdaad je volkomen gelijk. Uitstekende landschap met een aantal mooie kleuren.
Misschien someday Ik wou komen bezoeken Amerika. Maar ... Ik eerlijk gezegd niet echt trekken.

Hello Niek,
I was waiting on the Painted Hills, which had been shown former by some of the American TN members ...these hills seem to be something so extraordinary!
I'm not disappointed, looking at your subtle shot. Very fine vertical composition, showing us the different color-layers and an interesting view on some vegetation in the left upper corner. I also always like your natural colors.
Very well done and I'm looking forward for some other shots of this area.

Hi Niek. This must have been a wonderful sight to see. The patterns and colours are just beautiful. Taken from a good POV making this a fine compostion. I think the long focus lens was the right one to use. well done TFS.

Hey Niek!
It's hard to believe that the Painted Hills are real. I love the colours of each of the layers. The hills look like they are made up of fine rock or sand, and are much different looking than the Badlands in Alberta. Well captured and shown.

Indeed, it's a shame you didn't get a chance to stay at the Painted Hills for the golden hours...i am very curious what you would have come up with :) I'm sure it would have been great.
Even so, i think you managed a very beautiful shot.
The brightest time of the day is not a good one for "arty" photography, we all know that, but you used your tele zoom smartly here and got a superb cool close-up of the texture geology here.
All the slopes and angles create a very nice composition and the fact that you left a bit of a perspective in the upper left corner is a very nice treat.
Overall, lovely shot from you despite the harsh light conditions.

Hi again,

This reminds me of all those shots I took at Painted HIlls. I suppose I could actually get around to posting some of them, huh? NOT! I am still in a "paralytic funk" when it comes to TN. I check it out daily but am hard pressed to actually post or critique very often. WHAT'S WRONG WITH ME??? : P

I find your vertical shot interesting as I tended to think "horizontal" when I was there. I did post a vertical shot recently. Vertical shots always make me think of you.

You did well despite the bright conditions. I've been there twice... once in bright light and once with wonderful dark threatening clouds. Clouds were more fun. I had to smile at Horia's pixel comment... Of course it wasn't. Doesn't he know you...EE??? : )

I have heard of, but have never been to the Painted Hills.
Your photo surely makes me want to go.
You rendered the texture beautifully, and the colors are amazing.
I like your composition with all the contours of the hills crisscrossing.
I wish I had some idea of the scale involved.

Hi Niek,
This is wonderful, I like this area alot, it was kind of far out from me, but I made a point of stopping by. Though the monument is not that big but there are so many photographing opportunities.
I like this POV really give the essence of how painted hills are against the background. Colors is actually a little softer than reality, I think, perhaps due to the over castlight. I have much stronger colors here. Maybe I will post some later. thanks

Jammer dat je vaak maar korte tijd kunt blijven op een bepaalde plek. Niettemin een prachtig plaatje.

I was sure I had written a critiqu on this one - but it seems not to be here - so here is another attempt. I lobe the colours - I think I can honestly say that it had not occurred to me that mountains could come in these colours! and as with my photo, I love the blue in the top left - but in your case bluer mountains to offset the red and creams in the rest of the picture. the portrait format has worked really well. I hope you are pleased with this picture - I would be. you have pulle dit off really well given it was the brightest time of day...
