The Variegated Meadowhawk is largely tan or gray with a pale face that is tan in young males and females, but becomes red in mature males. Shot this one yesterday.

Anyone in the Central Texas area is most welcome to attend my exhibit opening this Saturday at the Bosque Arts Center in Clifton, Texas.

Thanx for lookin' and have a Great Weekend!

What an honor to be in your vicinity on TN gallery today, Howard!
Though I too am now an infrequent visitor on TN, it is still a very pleasant surprise to see your work after quite a long period of time.
Taking this sharp a picture of a dragonfly in flight is something a photographer of your caliber is able to do. It is a marvel that you have created with so much patience and using the full array of your equipment.
Thanks for displaying your class on the now rather mediocre nature photo site. It is a blessing for many an aspiring shutterbug like me.
Warm regards.
Ram

Superb photo in splendid clear colours and excellent sharpness and details. What a great shot! Very beautiful composition, POV and OOF BG.
The link tot Bosque Art Center doesn't work to me: The page you are looking for has been moved or no longer exists.
Have a very nice weekend,
Peter

Hi Howard,

Hello Howard,
Excellent capture, with good sharpness and colors. A real challenge. Good luck for your exhibition. Cheers,
Catherine

Hi Howard,
incredible but true we get to see some your macro shots again. You know of course that there are many attempts to capture a Dragon fly in full flight, but the results (including mine) have so far be wanting. You achieved a break through here. The bright background might hold part of the secret: you can focus better on the animal that way (see, I'm learning... ). What you can see so well in your picture: the fore wing and hind wing pairs flap independently from each other. If I'm correct, Dragon flies are the only insects doing so. The Dragon-fly type of flapping must create interesting air turbulences and I would not be surprised to learn this to be a particularely efficient way of flying. Of course in the case of Icarus the flapping of wings was not a success :-).
Best regards
Dietrich

Hi Howard.
It is possibly to dream only about such image. Superb n-flight picture of a wonderful specimen of a dragonfly. Timing is the best, details, sharpness and colour reproduction are superb. Posture of the wings are sweet. Bravo, as always.
Alexei.

As usual, I find this shot quite stunning, too,Howard.
Every aspect stands out, in this shot.
Bravo!
Goldy
PS:Thanks for your kind words, Howard.

Fantastic, Howard, I've never seen such a brilliant shot of a flying dragon.
I missed you - so many members went away and deleted all the shots like you - I were so sad and made a break here for half a year.
Now I'm back and things changed into positiv as I see. That's good, this site is so wonderful with all the shots and the friendly members.
Thanks and greetings from Germany
