Info on the Common Green Darner

Mating

I was lucky enough to witness this pair of Common Green Darners during oviposition. The male grasps the female behind the head as she uses her ovipositor to deposit eggs into a plant below the water's surface. I watched as she repeatedly submerged her abdomen in an effort to insure propagation of her species.

Hi Jim,
mate guarding at its best! :-) The kind of picture you present is very rare and I appreciate it a lot. Often all of this tandem is not in focus in such shots but you must have convinced the buggers that the plane of the couple be the same as the plain of the sensor :-)
Thanks for this
Best regards
Dietrich
