Its a 'hummer' Howie!
'Hummer' is Kiwi slang,short for 'Humdinger ... as in 'she's a hummer mate'(of,for instance a Holden Monaro... for Kiwis... I'm a Ford man... born in the UK)

Great Howard, good choice of depth of field, just enough to give the bird context with the bright colours of the flowers while at the same time not too loud. Also an excellent balance of the wing motion and the body frozen. Well done, I am going to look at your other work now. Cheers, Rob

Very sharp photo of this hummingbird, Howard. Details are so crisp. Perfect light and composition. And thank you for filling up the feeders for them. You are probably saving their lives. Is that a bit of tongue we see at the end of the lower beak? TFS. : )

It is a "wish it mine" moment. I hope I get the chance to give this a go in the summer. :) I do think you could have benefitted from setting the exposure +1/3 in photo. I dared a WS to try and convey my point but say you turned off WS allowed. I will mail it to you.

hey howard, very nice shot, focus and sharpness is very good.i like the bright fuschia colours of the flowers in the bg, they break the greyish/brown colours.the composition is good, with the bird on the left looking to the right.i would have chosen a less wide frame.but, howard, good shot!

Great shot Howard, the body is razor-sharp, so clear you can almost touch it. I think the speed you've used here is the key. Froze the body but still allowed enough blur in th ewing to infer movement. Great background to. Well done.
