[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
This fresh American Lady came flouncing through my yard, yesterday afternoon. I have previously posted a photo of the American Lady with only it's underwing showing, this beauty was showing off it's dorsal with real confidence as if it knew how beautiful it was. It shared the flowers on the Butterfly Bush with a Bubmble Bee and they both nectared side by side very amicably. This American Lady will soon be making it's long migratory flight to the south where it will overwinter in a warm climate. I found the diamond shape on the back of it's body quite fascinating, but could not find anything written about it in my field guide.

Lovely picture Lesley and great 2 for the price of 1. Butterfly is gorgeous, and all the colours from the flower and fly provide a nice constrast. Personally, I would have inverted the whole thing degrees to put butterfly facing up but that is a personal preference. Excellent work.

This is a nice macro. The colours and details are perfect. The white edges on his wing is a great natural contraster. Thanx for sharing

Beautiful macro.
As Paul did I also thought about some kind of rotation, but the pic is fantastic. Very nice post.

A most excellent photo Lesley! I must agree with Paul - I think a 180 flip would've been better..

Eye-catching colours in the thumbnail transformed into this gorgeous creature crisply captured. Lesley, of course - who else?
I can't help with details of markings but I'll throw in my twopenn'orth in favour of the status quo. If flipped vertically or rotated wouldn't the lighting/shadows look stranger than an 'upside-down' butterfly? (Which is quite a common position in which to find them - but they never stay long enough to be captured by me breathing in their ear :o)
