[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
No summer day is complete without one of these large Swallowtails sailing through the gardens and meadows of New England. These lovelies fly from Spring to Autumn and have 2-3 broods. I most often see the Eastern Tiger Swallowtail sailing high in the trees in my backyard, but this photo was taken at the wildlife sanctuary.

The males are always yellow, but the females can be either all yellow or all black. The yellow adults have distinctive black tiger-like stripes on the abdomen. Females generally have more blue on the hindwing than the male... this is something that several species of Swallowtails seem to have in common.
