[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
Here is another posting of the same two gulls that were in yesterday's post.
Until now I have mostly taken pictures of stationary animals, or rather... of animals in a stationary position, however momentary. I wanted to try to take some pictures of animals in motion. This is my first attempt.
Any suggestions or tips would be appreciated!

Hi Manyee,
This is a pretty good first attempt. You will get alot of those near misses. Go to high speeed shutter for stopping the action, but watch your DOF as it will get shallower as your shutter speed goes up. The good thing about digital, no wated film.

I like this picture, Manyee. Well done and TFS. This is a very good actionshot. Even the dirt that he kicked up is still in motion. The picture is a success because it clearly shows the motion.

Hello Manyee,

This is a very nice shot of a Gull taking off! I just love such shots. Basically I think there is just one thing which is really wrong in my eyes and that's the overexposed Gull in the background. That bird is very disturbing for me and he is also oe. It was a piece of cake to clone it out. I fixed you a workshop. The tail of the flying Gull and it's feet are a little dark but that's just nitpicking from my side. It's a very nice shot, Manyee. Congrats & TFS!

Regards,
Pieter

Ps-My tip for flying bird-pics: fast shutterspeeds on bright days. You need at least a shutterspeed of 1/1000 to capture fast moving smaller birds.

Manyee, this shot is nice and has a great pov.

These captures are not easy. Anyway, a very nice picture. The wings are great, and I like checking the moment of "departure".

Hello Manyee,
great job and perfect timing. The gull in the background is looking funny.... This is a exellent work and TFS.

Hi Manyee

Great POV. Love the sand being kicked up. You managed to freeze that perfectly. Good timing! Focus looks a wee bit soft and I would have cloned out the gull in the back. Good work though. Thanks.

Great shot Manyee. You've stopped the action very well just at "takeoff". Very good details, colors and DOF. Great exposure in your subject also. Tips? Just get that shutter-speed up and whenever you can, don't rely on IS...Rely on a tripod to stabilize your camera whenever possible for the sharpest captures..I like it, Well done!

I love this one Manyee! Great moment and even though you froze him quite well, I can still "feel" his movement. Excellent composition as well.

Very well done and thanks for posting
