Young black + white beach

A young beach on Big Island, Hawaii near Puako (Kona region). The white stones are coral, the black ones are volcanic origin (hardened lava). When this beach grows older, the stones will be pounded to little pieces of mixed grain, aka grey sand.

Hi Gabi,
I like your shot. Lots of depth.
I love it in BW also.
Fantastic DOF.
Nice contrasts in the clouds.
:)

Gabi,
Nice use of Black and White. I also like to see portrait shots in B&W. They seem to be rare because you need to think differently to achieve a good B&W. Landscape shots in B&W are easier because you have more width to fill up a frame and expose more contrasing colors. You did a fine job displaying that in portrait format. Thanks for such a good post!

Hi Gabi, I think this is a interesting scene. I have no affinity for shooting BW myself so I am unsure as the critique. Please bare with me...

I think the foreground is too cluttered, there are lots of items leading the eye all over the photo. The basic idea with the lonely tree at the top would have had more impact if the second tree to the left had not been there. The sky looks dramatic and I can't help wondering what this would have looked like in color. But that's just me... :)

I love the composition! The rocks to the tree to the sky, it is just great and I love it in B+W

TFS
