[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
The Walnut Sphinx is found from Canada to Florida and dwells in bottomlands, fields, woodlands and forests.
They feed on American hornbeam, butternut, hickory, hop hornbeam and walnut. I found this particular specimen on a hickory tree.

One interesting charcteristic is the whistling or hissing sound it makes when touched. It is also know as a thrasher, because of the way it violently thrashes it's head from side to side when provoked.

Hi Ron,

Fantastic shot of this beautiful caterpillar with great details & sharpness.
Taken from a perfect POV & the dark BG is best. Well done & TFS.

Good day/evening Ron.
In my opinion those creatures are amongst the most difficult to fit in a frame ... with their long and slim body .... Good detail we have here, and I love to study the body texture of the caterpillar. Interesting note and observation of course my friend. Take care ...

George Veltchev

A good friend sent me a picture of one of these for my newsletter. She is the wife of Bobby Whittaker and was wife of Jim Whittaker who was first man to climb Mt Everest in the early 60's for America...I am not surprised at how the Lord works in synchronicity. great shot!
